State secretary of Indian journalist association jammu Kashmir and Saarc Journalists forum executive Syed Mushtaq has condemned the police action on a group of journalists covering a Muharram procession in Srinagar Jammu Kashmir today on Tuesday.
In a statement issued here Syed Mushtaq, Farooq Shahmeeri,Parvaiz Rashi, expressed concern over the thrashing and lathi charge of journalists and also detained a few Shia mourners at Jahangir Chowk in the city who were there to take a procession to mark the eighth day of the 10-day Muharram mourning period.
Media persons be it photo and video journalists always render their professional duties which is evident by virtue of their equipment and the nature of job,Thrashing and lathi charging them is sheer injustice and an attack on the freedom of press, said syed.
Syed demands a probe into the matter and urged upon the stakeholders to allow media professionals of all cadres to perform their duties in a free and fair atmosphere.
